The Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham, has announced that the Ministry is intensifying its efforts to improve the welfare of children under state care.

She made the statement at a press conference held today at the President’s Office, where she provided an update on the ministry’s ongoing initiatives aimed at supporting children in welfare centers across the nation.

Dr. Aishath Shiham revealed that the newly established State Care Department is focused on assisting welfare centers in the Atolls. The department works closely with these centers to ensure children receive the necessary care, attention, and resources.

The minister highlighted that children in state-run welfare centers are among the most vulnerable and require significant support. The newly established department is dedicated to working closely with these centers to meet their needs effectively.

Additionally, Dr. Aishath Shiham explained that the state-run welfare centers are divided by age group, with separate facilities for boys and girls. To ensure quality care, staff at these centers receive regular training and are equipped with the necessary resources to carry out their duties effectively.

In line with these efforts, Dr. Aishath Shiham shared that the ministry is also focused on preparing children in state care for independent living. Efforts are underway to provide education and vocational training to help these children become self-sufficient when they transition out of the welfare centers and into the workforce.
