Former Ungoofaaru MP and The Democrats' Vice President, Mohamed Waheed, has stated that the free degree program introduced by the previous administration was a direct promise of former President Mohamed Nasheed.
The free degree program, launched six years ago, has provided thousands of students with access to higher education. Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih recently highlighted the initiative as one of the key achievements of his presidency, emphasizing that education fosters equality and creates opportunities for young people to build a better future.
In a post on X, Waheed asserted that the free degree program was a continuation of Nasheed's vision, just as free healthcare was a major policy during his presidency. He pointed out that with the significant tax revenue collected, it was Nasheed’s leadership that paved the way for such initiatives to be implemented.
