Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad (Fitte) has criticized the Parliament, alleging that it is working to conceal the government's failures rather than addressing key national issues.

Speaking during discussions on the proposed amendment to the Tourism Act, Ziyad expressed concerns over the government's decision to strip councils of their authority. However, he highlighted a larger issue—the absence of an Attorney General and the government's failure to implement proper legal frameworks for the role.

He also criticized the government for not submitting enough legislative work to Parliament, arguing that this has resulted in repeated debates over the same topics for extended periods. Ziyad suggested that the lack of substantial work has led the Parliament's leadership to focus on publicizing statistics to create the impression of productivity.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over legislative inaction within Parliament. In response, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah defended the institution, stating that while plenary sessions have concluded, important work continues within parliamentary committees, where key legislative matters are addressed.
