The current Cabinet of Ministers, in the strongest of terms, has condemned the May 6 terror attack targeting the former President and the current Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed.
President Nasheed sustained numerous injuries following an explosion outside his residence on Neeloafaru Hingun last Thursday night. The explosion took place with a homemade remote-controlled IED, which was strapped to a motorcycle parked nearby President Nasheed’s residence. It was detonated just as President Nasheed exited his residence.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih condemned the attack at today's online cabinet meeting, describing it as a heinous act of terror. Deliberations took place on the latest cautionary steps taken following the terror attack and expediting the investigation. They also discussed ways of strengthening and ensuring the safety and security of the public.
The President also apprised the Cabinet on the Speaker's current health and recovery.
