Russian charter airline Azur Air announced plans to commence flights from Moscow to the Maldives on Boeing-777 from 28th November 2020 onwards.
Flights will be operated once a week during the autumn-winter season.
In the meantime, only Russia’s flag carrier Aeroflot operated direct flights from Russia to the Maldives.
“Azur Air is expanding the possibilities of Russian tourists to spend their holidays in the Maldives. On November 28, regular flights from Moscow to Male will open on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The program is scheduled once a week, on Saturdays, for the entire autumn-winter season,” – the company said.
Following the border reopening on July 15th, the Maldives has seen an increase in tourist arrivals from day-to-day. While the Maldives Tourism industry works its way back on to its feet amidst the ongoing pandemic, Minister of Tourism, Abdulla Mausoom has stated that by the end of Nov 2020 at least 18 Airlines will connect the Maldives to the world.
The Tourism Ministry has stated that from 1st January to 11th November, a total of 434,201 tourists arrived in the Maldives and the Ministry aims to reach 500,000 tourist arrivals before the end of the year 2020.
