The Maldives is experiencing a notable increase in tourist arrivals this year, according to the latest daily report from the Ministry of Tourism.
As of August 19, 2024, the Maldives has welcomed 1,304,236 tourists, marking a 10.4% increase from the 1,181,093 visitors recorded during the same period last year.
The uptick in tourism is especially pronounced for the first 19 days of this month, with a 14.5% rise compared to the 105,866 tourists who visited during the same timeframe in 2023.
Currently, the Maldives is receiving an average of 6,378 tourists per day, with visitors typically staying for an average of seven days. The largest number of tourists hail from China, followed by Russia, with the UK ranking third among the top source countries.
In response to the positive trend, the Maldivian government aims to attract two million tourists by the end of the year, setting an ambitious new record for the country. To support this goal, the government is collaborating with the tourism industry on enhanced advertising and promotional efforts.
