The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) reports that airport development fees (ADF) and departure taxes collected in August 2024 totaled MVR 1.5 billion.
According to MIRA data, the government received MVR 747 million in departure tax and MVR 763 million in ADF up until August. This marks an MVR 143 million increase compared to the same period last year.
The government had projected MVR 1 billion in departure tax and MVR 1 billion in ADF for the 2024 budget. ADF is a fee charged to every departing passenger at Velana International Airport, while departure tax is imposed on all passengers leaving the country.
The Ministry of Tourism revealed that 1.4 million tourists had visited the Maldives as of September 15 this year.
