President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that the contract signing for the establishment of a fish factory in GDh. Fiyoari with a Chinese company will take place in February. The announcement was made during his visit to the island as part of his ongoing tour of the atoll.
Addressing residents, President Muizzu acknowledged the challenges faced by local fishermen in weighing their catch at the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex. He emphasized his commitment to delivering on promises made to citizens and ensuring solutions to these longstanding issues.
According to the President, once the contract is signed, the Chinese contractor will commence work on the facility, which is designed to weigh up to 3,000 tonnes of fish. Additionally, the facility will have the capacity to pack 100 tonnes of canned fish daily, provide 3,000 tonnes of cold storage, and house a 50-tonne ice plant.
During his address, President Muizzu also responded to concerns raised by local authorities. He assured that priority would be given to renovating the school hall, alongside the development of a multipurpose hall, additional classrooms, and a laboratory.
Furthermore, he acknowledged concerns over the lack of ATM services on the island and pledged to address the issue. The President also assured residents that efforts would be made to improve the island's waste management system.
