Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has expressed concern over an alarming increase in children appearing in the gathering places of criminal groups in the Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference, CP Naveen noted that many of the children are recent school leavers, aged 17 to 18, and often new faces rather than those previously involved in criminal activity. He urged parents to pay close attention to their children’s movements and whereabouts to prevent future involvement in crime.
The CP clarified that the children observed are not currently committing crimes and have been advised and sent away. However, he warned that without proper supervision, these youths could be drawn into criminal activity in the future.
He emphasized the importance of full parental supervision, especially for 17-year-olds, to ensure their safety and prevent early exposure to criminal networks.
