The Maldives Police Service has inspected 501 areas in the past two days as part of its ongoing efforts to prevent gang-related crimes.

According to police statistics, the Gang Crime Suppression Department conducted raids at 501 locations on the 13th and 14th of this month, questioning individuals 129 times. During the operation, 10 vehicles were checked, four were towed, and 840 minutes of patrols were conducted across various parts of the city.

The operation comes after amendments to the Gang Crime Prevention Act came into force in August last year.

In addition to targeting gang crimes, police have also been conducting special operations to address the drug problem in the Maldives. Operation Alimagu, carried out simultaneously across different areas on Thursday, was described as the largest anti-drug operation conducted so far.
