Sheikh Mohammed Shifan, vice-president of the Adalat Party, has been elected as the party’s new president.
Shifan secured 99 percent of the votes cast in the election, while his opponent, Ikram Abdul Sattar, received one percent. Voter turnout stood at 22 percent of eligible members.
Following the result, Sheikh Shifan thanked party members for placing their trust in him and supporting his leadership.
Ikram had withdrawn his nomination last week, citing concerns over the transparency of the election and alleging it was structured unfairly. However, the party proceeded with the election as scheduled.
Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdullah previously served as president of the Adalat Party for two consecutive terms.
