Adhaalath Party President Sheikh Imran Abdulla has said the Media Regulation Bill passed by Parliament will open the door to the end of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s government.
The bill, which has raised widespread concerns from journalists and the public for restricting media freedom, was passed during a special sitting of Parliament on Tuesday.
In a post on X, Imran said that by pushing through the bill, President Muizzu had “opened the door to end the government” and that he cannot close it.
He warned that if the bill becomes law, public resistance would grow “one person at a time,” and even PNC MPs could eventually turn against the government.
