The Maldives and Azerbaijan held their first round of bilateral consultations today, focusing on strengthening cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.

The discussions, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, were led by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya and Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov. The two sides reviewed progress on key agreements and cooperation programs, following discussions between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and President Ilham Aliyev at COP29 in Baku last November.

The consultations covered a wide range of topics, including investment promotion, education, culture, tourism, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides also discussed strengthening multilateral cooperation and reiterated their commitment to maintaining close engagement.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mammadov is leading a high-level Azerbaijani delegation, which includes representatives from government agencies such as the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of Azerbaijan (AZPROMO) and the private sector. During their visit, the delegation will meet with key government stakeholders and explore investment opportunities in the Maldives.
