President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held discussions with Estonian Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas and Minister of Climate Yoko Alender during his official visit to Estonia.

The meetings focused on enhancing cooperation in education, climate action, and renewable energy.

During his meeting with Minister Kallas at the Ministry of Education and Research, President Dr. Muizzu commended Estonia’s globally recognized education system and expressed interest in adapting its innovative learning approaches in the Maldives. He also explored opportunities for Maldivian students, including scholarships and academic collaborations. Minister Kallas provided insights into Estonia’s education strategies and affirmed Estonia’s willingness to support the Maldives in strengthening its education sector.



In a separate meeting with Minister Alender at the Joint Building of Ministries, President Dr. Muizzu reiterated the Maldives’ commitment to environmental sustainability and renewable energy development. He highlighted Estonia’s expertise in smart grids and sustainable technologies as valuable models for enhancing the Maldives’ environmental resilience and reducing carbon emissions. Minister Alender acknowledged the shared challenges faced by both nations, particularly in combating climate change, and emphasized Estonia’s readiness to collaborate on renewable energy and digital innovation.



Following the discussions, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Maldives and Estonia to advance cooperation in climate action, environmental sustainability, and energy. The agreement was signed by Maldives' Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel and Estonia’s Minister of Climate Yoko Alender.



The meetings reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral ties and foster collaboration in key sectors, laying the foundation for future partnerships.
