President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that an agreement has been reached with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to undertake the development of Fainu Airport, with work set to begin in February.

This announcement was made during his visit to Fainu Island, as part of his ongoing tour of North Maalhosmadulu Atoll on Thursday afternoon.

In his address to the island’s residents, the President shared that the airport development project would be implemented alongside the ongoing water and sanitation improvements on the island. He assured the community that both projects would proceed simultaneously, ensuring seamless progress without delays.

Highlighting the economic significance of the project, President Muizzu emphasized that the development of Fainu Airport would provide a crucial boost to the island’s economy, particularly through the tourism sector. He described the project as a significant investment that would create long-term opportunities for the island and the broader atoll.

Looking forward, the President expressed his anticipation that his next visit to Fainu would coincide with the inauguration of the completed airport.
