STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy has confirmed that the recent power outage in Malé was due to an issue with the Greater Malé Interconnection Grid.
Fahmy stated that the technical problem has now been resolved and electricity has been fully restored to Malé and Hulhumalé. He assured the public that the company is working to determine the exact cause of the disruption and will share further details once the investigation is complete.
He also thanked STELCO staff and others who assisted in restoring power, and pledged that the company would take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has instructed authorities to treat the citywide blackout as a serious matter, and a formal investigation is now underway.
