The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has drained 16,911 tons of water from flooded areas in the capital since yesterday evening, following heavy rainfall.

The MNDF launched emergency drainage efforts after severe flooding disrupted daily life. The situation in the city has now returned to normal, and the drainage operations have been temporarily suspended, according to the MNDF.

In addition to clearing the roads, the MNDF assisted 131 households affected by the flooding and placed 976 sandbags to prevent further water damage.

Meanwhile, MNDF teams continue drainage operations in Huraa, Guraidhoo, Himmafushi, Thulusdhoo, Maafushi, and Maamigili, where flooding remains a concern.
