Israel will continue blocking humanitarian aid into Gaza, intensifying what Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has called a “mass grave” crisis, as air and ground offensives resume.
Defense Minister Israel Katz said Wednesday that preventing aid is a key tactic to pressure Hamas, with no plans to allow supplies into the besieged enclave of 2.4 million. “Israel’s policy is clear: no humanitarian aid will enter Gaza,” Katz stated.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also vowed continued military pressure until all 58 hostages held in Gaza are released. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned Netanyahu’s visit to Gaza as a “provocative intrusion.”
MSF warned that ongoing strikes and aid restrictions have devastated the health system. “Gaza has been turned into a mass grave of Palestinians and those coming to their assistance,” said MSF coordinator Amande Bazerolle.
The UN says Gaza is facing its worst humanitarian crisis since the war began in October. No aid has entered in over six weeks.
The International Court of Justice will begin hearings on April 28 to assess Israel’s obligations to ensure access to aid for Gaza. While ICJ rulings are binding, enforcement remains a challenge.
Israeli airstrikes continued Wednesday, with 11 civilians killed in Gaza City, according to civil defense. Gaza’s health ministry reports over 51,000 deaths since the war began following Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, which killed 1,218 people.
