Iran and Israel launched fresh missile attacks on each other early Wednesday, marking the sixth consecutive day of intensifying hostilities between the two rivals. The escalation comes despite a call from former U.S. President Donald Trump for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”
The Israeli military reported two separate barrages of Iranian missiles targeting Israel in the early hours, with explosions heard over Tel Aviv. In response, Israel warned residents in parts of Tehran to evacuate, preparing for airstrikes on Iranian military sites. Iranian media confirmed blasts in Tehran and nearby Karaj.
On Tuesday, Trump issued a series of warnings on social media, saying the U.S. knew the whereabouts of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei but had no current plans to target him. “Our patience is wearing thin,” he wrote, shortly before posting, “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”
While Trump’s messaging has fluctuated between threats and diplomacy, he reportedly spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and held a 90-minute National Security Council meeting on the situation. A White House official confirmed the U.S. is deploying additional fighter jets to the region and extending the stay of others, though it has so far limited involvement to defensive support for Israel.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, speaking from the G7 summit in Canada, said there was no indication the U.S. was preparing to enter the conflict directly.
The situation remains fluid as global powers watch with concern.
