The Government of the Republic of Maldives has strongly condemned the demolition of buildings belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of occupied East Jerusalem.

In a statement, the government said the demolitions constitute a clear violation of international law, undermine the work of the United Nations and humanitarian agencies, and further worsen the already dire humanitarian situation faced by the Palestinian people. It said the actions also contravene rulings of the International Court of Justice.

The Maldives reaffirmed its unwavering support for UNRWA and its vital humanitarian role in providing essential assistance and protection to Palestinians.

The government also urged the international community to fulfil its obligations and take concrete measures to hold Israel accountable for its continued violations of international law.
