Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has accused the government of not being truthful about the development of the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA).

Speaking to local media, Solih claimed that the government is misrepresenting the origins and progress of the terminal project. He stated that significant design and structural changes, including the terminal’s interior and exterior features, were made during the previous administration.

Solih noted that adjustments to the ceiling, flooring, and environmental design were introduced under his government, and while he is not seeking credit, he stressed that the public deserves transparency about the project’s origins.

He also alleged that the layout of the terminal’s road system was completed before the current government took office. Addressing rumours that the duty-free shops and restaurants in the terminal may be allocated without a formal bidding process, Solih urged the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Auditor General’s Office to investigate the matter thoroughly.
