Hamas on Tuesday denied Israeli claims that militants were among those killed in Monday’s strike on Gaza’s Nasser hospital.

Israel had said six militants were killed in the attack, but acknowledged it was investigating how civilians, including five journalists, were also killed. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the incident as a “tragic mishap.”

In a statement, Hamas’ government media office said one of the Palestinians Israel identified as a militant was killed in Al-Mawasi, some distance from the hospital, while another was killed elsewhere at a different time. The group did not specify whether the two were civilians.

The strike has further intensified scrutiny of Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza, where hospitals and civilian areas have repeatedly come under fire.
