Velidhoo MP Mohammed Abbas has called on citizens to take to the streets to hold the government accountable, linking the situation in the Maldives to ongoing protests in Indonesia over lawmakers’ benefits.

In a message shared on social media, Abbas said the Maldives is facing challenges similar to Indonesia and argued that it is time for the people to act. He noted that the country and its citizens can only be saved from the current situation by holding the government to account.

His comments come as the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) prepares to stage a mass demonstration in the capital on October 3, calling for the government to be brought back on track.

Former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih has also voiced criticism, stating that nearly two years into its term, the government has raised concerns across the Maldives about its performance.
