Activists aboard a Gaza aid flotilla say they remain determined to break Israel’s blockade despite alleging one of their boats was hit by a drone off Tunisia on Monday night.

Organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla said a suspected UAV strike caused a fire on the vessel anchored off Sidi Bou Said. Tunisian authorities, however, dismissed the claim as “unfounded,” suggesting the fire may have been accidental. Security footage released by activists showed a burning object falling onto the ship, though no one was injured.

“This only strengthens our determination to reach Gaza,” Tunisian organizer Ghassen Henchiri told supporters in Tunis.

The flotilla, carrying international activists including Greta Thunberg, plans to depart the Tunisian capital Wednesday to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. The mission comes as the United Nations warns of famine in the war-ravaged territory, where more than 500,000 people face “catastrophic” conditions.

UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese, based in Tunis, said if confirmed, a drone strike would represent “an assault against Tunisia’s sovereignty.” The Israeli military has not commented on the incident.
