President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has shared his concerns over the sudden surge in Covid-19 cases in neighbouring India.
In a tweet sharing his concerns as India battles the new wave Covid-19, President stated that Maldives stand in solidarity with the people of India. He also praised the efforts taken by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian authorities to ease the situation.
As India endured an alarming surge in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases last week, overwhelmed hospitals with oxygen supply and crucial bed space. The number of infections has doubled in the past 13 days as several states continue to suffer from an acute shortage of beds and medical oxygen supply at hospitals.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has described the situation in India beyond heart-breaking.
With the sudden surge in Covid-19 cases in India, many countries have made temporary travel restrictions with India. Similarly Maldives have introduced temporary restrictions to tourists arriving from India to guesthouses and city hotels.
