The Islamic Ministry of the Maldives has announced Wednesday as the last day of Ramadan and Thursday, May 13, as Eid-Al-Fitr.

The announcement was made by the Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali at a special ceremony held on Wednesday. Speaking at the ceremony, Islamic Minister said that since the moon was not sighted in the Maldives to mark the first day of the Hijri month of Shawwal, under the policy to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Wednesday, May 12 is confirmed as the last day of Ramadan. Minister then confirmed Thursday, May 13 as Eid Al Fitr.

In addition to this, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs in an announcement confirmed based on trusted astrological calculations, that the moon was not sighted in any Islamic nation as well.
