As Israeli fighter jets continued to pummel the Gaza Strip damaging residential buildings, the death toll continues to rise. According to the health ministry of Gaza, the death toll has raised to at least 227, including 64 children and 38 women. While the number of wounded has hit 1,620 in Gaza.

After the Israel attacks started targeting civilian residential buildings, death and many injured includes children. Some of them have been left orphaned as their families pass away from the attacks, leaving them behind alone. The human rights groups have repeatedly condemned strikes that have killed women and children in the overcrowded territory of some 2 million inhabitants. While, Israel continues to claim that it is targeting only armed militants, including the Islamist Hamas group running the Gaza Strip.

As the escalation of violence grew for the 10th day, many countries continue to show their stance very clearly by standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Many joined their hands condemning Israel’s barbaric attacks against Palestinians.

Similarly, Maldives joined in with the rest of the world, by standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people and calling to free Palestine. The locals took to social media raising their voice, condemning Israel’s barbaric attacks against Palestinians.

One of the social media posts which grabbed the attention of many was one appealing to provide support to orphaned children from Palestine. Many joined in agreeing to it, to look after and help a child indeed as a child of own. The social media post called the government of the Maldives to look for the possibilities to make this a reality. Many expressed how much they were eager to help the children of Palestine in any way they can.

Meanwhile, under the legislation of the Maldives, the procedures to adopt a child are very challenging. But if the administration looks into possibilities of reviewing the legislation or procedures, it may not be impossible. Through social media, the number of people calling the government to make it a possibility to adopt an orphaned child from Gaza has increased over time. These genuine appeals prove that the humanity running in the blood of Maldivians cannot bear seeing innocent children being under attack.

Although both the countries are miles apart, Maldives has continuously shown its love for Palestine wholeheartedly.
