The test kit is a highly portable, and affordable tool for detecting active COVID-19 infections and it is manufactured from the US company Abbott. The US company Abbott is amongst the top laboratory test equipment producers in the world.
Abbott stated that the credit card-sized test kit will provide results within 15 minutes. This will be helpful for Maldives specially for contact tracing of active infection from a large population.
This test kit, which is an EU approved test, is currently being used in US and European countries. Abbott plans to ship millions of test kits around the globe.
Medtech is currently the only authorized distributor of Abbott in the Maldives.
