The Ministry of Health has announced the extension of the ongoing public health emergency till November 5th.

In a signed statement by the Housing Minister and Acting Health Minister Mohamed Aslam, ordered the ongoing state of public health emergency to be extended till November 5. The previous order, issued on September 6, was expired on Tuesday and this would also be the 8th time the state of public health emergency has been extended.

Along with reported cases of coronavirus, Maldives announced a state of public health emergency on March 12, the first such declaration under a recent public health protection law and the current announcement will be extending the initial state of public health emergency which was declared from March 12, 2020.

As per Minister Mohamed Aslam, the new extension comes from the advice of the Director General of Public Health, due to the threat of a severe nationwide outbreak remaining widespread, and special measures to mitigate the threat are needed in the Maldives for the health and safety of the people.

So far, Maldives has recorded a total of 10,621 positive cases and recovery of 9,466 infected people.
