President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday tested positive for the coronavirus.
President confirmed it on Twitter today. In his tweet, President Solih said that he tested on Friday night prior to embarking on a tour of the atolls, and the results have confirmed that he is positive to Covid-19.
The President reassured that he is in good health and in isolation at his official residence, Mulee’aage.
Maldives is currently battling a surge in COVID-19 cases fueled by the new variant. With the surge in the number of cases, the alert level has been raised from orange to red in the Maldives.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported 1697 Covid-19 cases yesterday, along with 11,535 active cases.
