Hungary has extended its support in evacuating the Maldivian students stuck in Ukraine.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid said that he has received assurance of full cooperation and assistance from the Foreign Minister of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, in the evacuation of Maldivian students in Ukraine.
Following this, 15 Maldivians residing in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine have are currently at the Hungarian Consulate in Uzhhorod (Ungvar), Ukraine, and all arrangements are underway for them to cross the border to Hungary, said, Shahid.
The Foreign Ministry of the Maldives has arranged a special team who will be receiving the Maldivians from Hungary. The Ministry reassured that once the students reaches Hungary, they will start their journey to the Maldives within the next two days time.
In addition to students residing at Ivano-Frankivsk, arrangements are underway to evacuate students residing in Dnipro, Ukraine. But Foreign Ministry highlighted that there are certain challenges delaying the evacuation as students residing in Dnipro are far from the Hungary border.
Foreign Ministry has already evacuated 25 local students residing in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and arrangements are underway to evacuate the remaining eight students in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
As the Russia and Ukraine crisis escalated, the government of the Maldives has been in connection with the students residing in Ukraine and making arrangements to relocate the local students to safer areas with support from neighboring countries.
