Maldives Police Service arrests the council member of the opposition party People's National Congress (PNC) from the 130Kg drug bust.

Police have alleged that the ringleaders of the drug network of the 130Kg of drugs seized from the fishing vessel near Hulhumale’, as Shaheeb Ibrahim from Lighthouse, G. A. Villingili, and Ahmed Moosa from Violetvilla, H. A. Hoarafushi.

Shaheeb Ibrahim is the councilor of PNC, he has filled positions in Ministries during the administration of the former president, Yameen Abdul Gayyoom. Shaheeb also contested for the Parliamentary seat for Villingili in the most recent parliamentary elections.

Police have also said that Shaheeb was arrested in connection to the drug bust of the Iran boat, in November 2019. Meanwhile, Shaheeb and 7 others who were arrested in the drug bust of 2019, have been released.

Police say that 7 people have been arrested through the investigations from the special operations conducted on 12th October, involving the 130 Kgs of drugs. Six of them who were arrested are between the ages of 25 to 48-year-old, and one minor below the age of 18 was arrested.

Meanwhile, the public has raised its concern on social media, saying that politicians are connected to a drug network, while the support of politicians is much needed for the special operations against drug trafficking in the Maldives.
