Police have dispersed a protest by Sri Lankans in the Maldives over the protection of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The protest started this afternoon and the people of Sri Lanka were carrying various banners along with the Sri Lankan flag. The crowd called on the Maldives not to give protection to the leaders who have committed crimes.
The rally was attended by a large number of people, but police dispersed the rally and confiscated some of the banners and flags they were carrying.
Gotabaya arrived in Sri Lanka last night and was reportedly staying at a resort in the Maldives. However, the country's official authorities have not yet commented on the matter.
