Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, Zaha Waheed has recently said that the Farming development projects signed with International Fund For Agricultural Development (IFAD), will be started soon.

In her remarks to celebrate the National Farmers’ Day, Minister Zaha said that the projects with the support from IFAD will be run in 3 atolls. From these projects, infrastructures required for cold storage and product packing facilities will be developed. Minister Zaha further said that these projects will support to maintain the quality of the products brought to the market.

Minister highlighted that local production and its contribution to the economy will be increased with the development of the agriculture and fishing industry. Minister further said that, with the development of the agriculture and fishing industry, the products can be brought to the markets of the Tourism Industry, which in return will benefit the farmers to earn money from home.

In referring to the announcement made by the President, that for the next three years, all land allocated for farming will be rent-free, Minister Zaha said that this would bring advantage and support to retain farmers in the industry.
