The Indian High Commission in the Maldives has denied allegations that India has helped Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa escape to the Maldives.

The Sri Lankan President arrived in the Maldives early yesterday. Since Gotabaya arrived in the Maldives, many have condemned the government's action, saying the Maldives should not interfere in Sri Lanka's internal affairs. Some have also described it as being done under the guise of India.

In response to the allegations, the High Commission said in a tweet that the allegations about the Indian government had helped Gotabaya escape were baseless. The Indian High Commission in the Maldives said that India had no hand in the situation.

After a 33-hour stay in the Maldives, Gotabaya has flown to Singapore on Saudi Arabia's national airline today. Although reports say that Singapore has reportedly granted asylum to Gotabaya, the country's Foreign Ministry has just denied the allegations.
