The opposition party, the Progressive Party of Maldives, PPM has decided to give the presidential ticket to former President Abdullah Yameen to contest in next year's presidential election.

The joint coalition of PPM and the People's National Congress, PNC decided to give the presidential ticket to President Yameen for the 2023 presidential election. The decision was made during the senate meeting held tonight.

Although Yameen has previously not announced his interest to run for President, the President of PNC, Abdul Raheem Abdulla has confirmed that Yameen has accepted the decision of the PPM coalition.

In addition to Yameen, former President Mohamed Nasheed and current President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have shown interest in running for the 2023 presidential elections.

Furthermore, both the Jumhoory party and MDN have also announced their candidates running for the 2023 presidential election.
