A Bangladeshi man arrested for having sex with a large number of men has been sentenced to seven months in jail by the Criminal Court.

Alamgir was convicted after he pleaded guilty to all the charges against him. The prosecution charged him with three counts of homosexuality.

The Criminal Court today held a hearing to rule on the case as Alamgir maintained his confession. At the hearing, Judge Ali Adam sentenced him to 7 months and 6 days in jail. He was also granted repentance by the court.

The maximum penalty for charges under the Penal Code for homosexuality is nine months and 18 days in jail.

Alamgir's investigative statements have also been leaked. In the statement, Alamgir told how he first came to the Maldives and how he started having sex with men. He also explained how he continued doing it in the Maldives and how he recorded the videos.

In the statement, he said he had recorded between 45 and 50 videos on his phone. The videos were leaked after someone stole his phone, said Alamgir. He also said he had contact with many people but he remembered only a few.

Three people have been charged so far in connection with the relationship with Alamgir. They are lawyer Nazim Abdul Sattar, former MP Nasheed, and Abdul Rahman Rafiu, who worked in the police DED.
