President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be elected for a second term, said Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid.

Abdullah Shahid stated this while responding to a question from an Indian newspaper in regard to the upcoming presidential elections of the Maldives.

Shahid said the people of Maldives had accepted the development brought about under President Solih. He said President Solih would be elected for a second term.

"President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be elected for a second term. The people have accepted what he has done under his leadership,” Shahid explained.

President Solih has expressed his interest in contesting for a second term on the MDP presidential ticket. In addition, President Solih, and former President Nasheed have also expressed interest in the MDP presidential ticket.

The MDP has decided to hold its presidential primary in October.
