The former prime minister Imran Khan was accused of instigating violence by Pakistan's Information Minister on Saturday after his political party demanded a massive countrywide demonstration in response to his shooting.

Khan was leading a protest march from Lahore to Islamabad on Thursday when he was wounded in the leg as he waved to people from a truck-mounted container and urged the government to call an early election.

Since the shooting, Khan has accused three people of being involved: the Inter-Services Intelligence director-general for counterintelligence, Maj. Gen. Faisal Naseer, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. However, he hasn't shown any proof to back up his claims, which the government and military have labeled as unfounded and reckless.

After Khan’s party called on supporters to mobilize across the country on Saturday to protest against what they say was an assassination attempt and demand Sharif’s resignation, Pakistan’s Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the former leader wanted “chaos in the country.”

“It’s absurd, it’s ridiculous to the max,” she told.

“How is the prime minister connected to this incident? Mr. Khan is inciting violence in Pakistan and instigating hate in Pakistan.”
