The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the government of Sri Lanka has not informed any restrictions on exporting fish from the Maldives to Sri Lanka.
The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs comes following the news circulated in the local media on Sri Lanka restricting exporting fish from the Maldives to Sri Lanka. The statement released by the Ministry reads that any official statement has not been released from the government of Sri Lanka to the Maldives on restricting exporting fish from the Maldives to Sri Lanka.
Foreign Ministry also states that Sri Lanka has given assurance on exporting fish and fish products from the Maldives to Sri Lanka on the 27th of October.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has increased the tax rate on imported fish to Sri Lanka from other foreign countries to give more benefits to the Srilankan fishermen. With the increase of tax rate, for fish and fish products exported from the Maldives to Sri Lanka, Maldives has to pay 62.49 MVR per kg as a tax.
