Mohamed Aslam, Parliamentary Group (PG) leader of MDP has said that he will ask the relevant committee of the Majlis to facilitate gaining access to the letter that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had sent to Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.

In a news conference held in the parliament today, Aslam said that he will ask for a ‘copy’ of the letter that was sent to PM Jugnauth which was related to the border issue between Maldives and Chagos Archipelago in the next meeting of 241-committee of the parliament.

Aslam said that presently, committees of the Majlis are not functioning and as soon as they resume business, he will place a request to avail a copy of the letter.

Opposition parties had urged the government even before the International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), issued its decision on delimiting Maldivian Southern EEZ to publicize the letter. However, this is the first time any official from MDP had made such a statement on the matter.
