Foreign minister Mr Abdulla Shahid makes a comeback at the opposition saying that the opposition cannot digest the relationship between India and Maldives and the outcome of this relationship in the development sector of the Maldives.

Speaking at the ceremony held in the closing of the street light project of M. Kolhufushi, Foreign minister Mr Shahid mentioned that the relationship between India and Maldives is an important relationship and this project is run with support from the Indian government as well. During this ceremony, Mr. Shahid also mentioned that the government will not wait for the criticism of the opposition and will continue to develop the country. In his speech he has assured that anything to be done for the development of the country, will be worked on.

Moreover, Mr Shahid highlighted that the president of the Maldives is working with the people for the people. The work of the current government is seen from north to south, across the Maldives. He also said that there are new big projects coming up. This includes a road development project in Addu city and greater Male’ connectivity project to connect Male’, Villingili and Thilafushi.

Furthermore to his speech, Mr Shahid noted that to get an easier route for cancer treatments, a hospital specialised for cancer treatment will be developed in Hulhumale’. He mentions that these big projects along with small development projects are with support from the India government for which he is thankful for the Indian government and the people of India.

The Indian government has been supporting the development of Maldives. Meanwhile, oppositions accuse that behind the support from India there is a hidden agenda to provoke the independence and peace of the country. Opposition calls that having India military based in the country is proof enough for this.
