President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has ratified the first amendment to the Fiscal Responsibility Act (Act No. 30/2024), bringing several changes to the implementation timeline of key fiscal measures.

The amendment was approved by Parliament on 1st December 2025 during its third session. It requires the government to develop, approve, and publish a Fiscal Responsibility Charter in the Government Gazette within 24 months of the Act coming into force.

During this two-year period, the amendment lifts the requirement to implement measures outlined in the Charter and removes the obligation to conduct feasibility studies before including Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects in the annual State Budget.

The amendment took effect immediately following the President’s ratification and its publication in the Government Gazette.
