President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to ensuring inclusive and quality education for all, describing education as a fundamental human right and a key driver of national development.

In a message marking the International Day of Education, the President said that despite challenges such as climate vulnerability and changing labour market demands, the Government remains focused on holistic education reform that reaches every learner across the Maldives.

He highlighted progress made over the past two years, including more than 6,000 graduates under the first-degree scheme, over MVR 1 billion disbursed in student loans, and efforts to address teacher shortages through the National Teacher Training Programme.

Emphasizing inclusivity, President Dr. Muizzu noted the introduction of a dedicated national training programme for Special Educational Needs (SEN) teachers and outlined plans to strengthen vocational education and training, with a focus on employability and national certifications.

The President also pointed to ongoing initiatives to enhance education quality through curriculum reform, digital transformation and international partnerships.

Concluding his message, President Dr. Muizzu called on all stakeholders to work together to build an education system that empowers every Maldivian. He reiterated on his official X account that investing in education is essential to building a more prosperous, equitable and resilient nation.

The International Day of Education is observed annually on 24 January.
