President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed that ending AIDS is a shared global responsibility, calling for collective action to achieve the goal by 2030. In a post on his official X account for World AIDS Day, he highlighted that change begins at the individual level.

Marking this year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” the President celebrated the Maldives’ milestone as the first country to achieve the World Health Organization’s “Triple Elimination” status, ending mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B. He said this achievement reflects the nation’s commitment to universal health coverage and equitable healthcare access.

President Muizzu also emphasized the role of cross-border partnerships, knowledge sharing, and innovation in driving progress, and reiterated the Maldives’ commitment to international cooperation, stigma elimination, and upholding individual dignity.

World AIDS Day is observed annually on 1 December to raise awareness and reinforce global efforts to combat the disease.
