The first test flight successfully lands at the newly developed Hoarafushi Airport under the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Hoarafushi Airport completed its test flight today, ahead of the scheduled grand opening Tuesday. The national flag carrier, Maldivian landed an aircraft at the airport today for the test flights. Hoarafushi Airport is the first airport to be developed in a limited time with land reclamation.

The Hoarafushi Airport development project was completed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). MTCC was contracted in early 2019 by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation for the development of the airport. The project included a runway measuring 1,200 meters and an apron measuring 8,635 square meters.

The 198 million Rufiyaa airport development project was initially planned to be built in Maafinolhu of the same atoll by the previous administration. But under the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih decided to move the project to Hoarafushi. The airport was developed in 576 days.
