Maldives has achieved a significant milestone in its tourism sector as it welcomed the 1 millionth tourist of 2024 today. Sutapa Amornvivat, a Thai national, arrived at Velana International Airport aboard AirAsia flight FD 175 at 11:15 am, accompanied by her family for a holiday at Niyama Maldives. This visit marks her third to the Maldives, following a memorable honeymoon.

The celebratory event, organized by Visit Maldives in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, unfolded at Velana International Airport with the presence of key government authorities such as the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Immigration, and Maldives Customs Service, alongside various industry stakeholders. In recognition of this special occasion, Sun Siyam Resorts generously offered a complimentary holiday to the 1 millionth tourist.



Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal expressed gratitude to all contributors to the Maldives' tourism success, acknowledging their dedication and collaborative efforts in making the destination a premier choice for travelers worldwide. He highlighted February 2024 as a record-breaking month with over 217,394 tourist arrivals, underscoring the strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering the country's tourism sector.

CEO & MD of Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Ibrahim Shiuree, emphasized the collective endeavor of the Maldives tourism industry in achieving this milestone ahead of schedule. He reaffirmed the commitment to President Dr. Muizzu's ambitious target of attracting 2 million national tourist arrivals, underscoring ongoing efforts to position the Maldives as the ultimate "Sunny Side of Life" destination.
