The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has informed that more Covid-19 clusters are being reported from tourist facilities and out of which, many people have reported being positive.

As per HEOC statistics, currently, from 02 resorts and a safari, many people have reported positive to Covid-19. This includes Niyama Maldives resort and Biyadhoo Island resort. During a recent press conference, HEOC informed that Niyama Maldives was brought under monitoring status since 30th December, due to a community spread suspicion in the resort.

Speaking at the recent press conference, the speaker of the HEOC, Dr. Nazla, has said that from Niyama Maldives, initial Covid-19 cases were reported from 02 tourists and 05 employees. Following which, direct contacts to the positive patients were isolated and random samples were taken from the resort.

Furthermore, Dr. Nazla said that from Biyadhoo Island resort, initial Covid-19 cases were reported from an employee on January 1st. The employee was reported positive to Covid-19 after consulting a doctor and getting tested from Male’. Dr. Nazla also informed that the employee was tested for Covid-19, as the employee had shown symptoms of Covid-19. Following which, direct contacts to the positive patients were isolated and random samples were taken from the resort. Out of the random samples, on Thursday, 17 people were reported positive to Covid-19, and on Friday, additional 32 people were reported positive to Covid-19. HEOC also informed that Biyadhoo Island resort is also under monitoring status due to a community spread of suspicion in the resort.

Apart from the 02 resorts, 22 tourists and 02 crew members have been reported positive to Covid-19 from a Safari. Dr. Nazla has said that all the positive people from the Safari has been isolated.

As per the recent statistics informed on Thursday, from the tourist facilities, there are 132 active cases to Covid-19.
