Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President-elect of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu extended his congratulations to Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President-elect of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, following his victory in the presidential elections held on Saturday. Dissanayake, representing the National People's Power party, secured the presidency with 42.31 percent of the vote, based on the final results from a second count and preferential voting.

In a post shared on the social media platform X, President Dr. Muizzu expressed his hope of working together to further strengthen the historic relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. He acknowledged Dissanayake's remarkable achievement and conveyed his best wishes for success in his new role.



The election results saw opposition leader Sajith Premadasa receiving 32.76 percent of the vote, while incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe garnered 17.27 percent. Following this victory, Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to be sworn in as President, a move seen as a promising boost for Sri Lanka amid its ongoing economic challenges.
