Former President Abdulla Yameen has declared that he will not form a political coalition with the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), citing fundamental differences in ideology and objectives.
In an exclusive interview on Raajje TV, Yameen emphasized that he does not trust the MDP and criticized the party for actions he claims have harmed the country.
Yameen stated that the MDP government was responsible for what he described as "harassment and insults" against him, and he held them accountable for policies he said undermined the country’s sovereignty and prosperity. He added that while he might engage in dialogue with the MDP on certain issues, he would not join them in a formal coalition, stressing his distrust of the party’s intentions.
“Can talk to MDP, but I don’t need to enter a coalition with them to oppose this government. I don’t trust them,” he said.
Yameen’s statements mark a clear stance against any alliance with the MDP, setting the stage for an independent campaign focused on national issues.
